alexa Plum River klein-mayer (they/she) is a Buddhist chaplain, educator, and musician. They graduated with a Master of Divinity in Buddhist Studies from Harvard Divinity School, and completed two units of Clinical Pastoral Education working in a hospital as an interfaith chaplain. Before moving to the Boston area, Plum River worked in faith-based community organizing for immigration justice and human rights. A practicing Buddhist since 2014, they began formal study with their current teacher Dr. Jitsujo Gauthier Hoshi in 2019 and received Jukai in the White Plum Asangha at the Zen Center of Los Angeles in 2022. In addition to chaplaincy work, Plum River works as the program manager for an online education program on healthy boundaries for Buddhist leaders and teachers. In their free time, they have fun playing the trombone with the School of Honk, a community street band and music school based in Somerville.
