Rabbi Sara Paasche-Orlow

Hillel Spiritual Advisor

As the Executive Director of Northeastern Hillel, Rabbi Sara is passionate about supporting students in building warm and welcoming Jewish communities, with diverse opportunities for friendship, learning, prayer, and community service. She was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and participated in a pluralist leadership training fellowship.  She interned at the LGBTQ synagogue in New York City during the peak of the HIV AIDs crisis, providing pastoral care and community support.  Rabbi Sara was a founder of the Bavli Yerushalmi project bringing diverse Israeli and American Jews into a learning community together and she started a non profit service learning organization for Jewish young adults.

A certified chaplain, she worked as the Director of Spiritual Care for a large Jewish hospital and senior care organization where she started a chaplaincy institute, created an LGBTQ aging initiative, organized DEI programs, and led the hospital ethics committee addressing challenging cases in medical and organizational ethics.  Currently serving as the president of the MA Board of Rabbis, she has created a pilot group together with the Black Ministerial Alliance/Ten Points to together combat racism and antisemitism. She co-authored the book Deathbed Wisdom of the Hasidic Masters, and multiple book chapters and articles on spiritual care.  Rabbi Sara is married and has three children.  She is an avid hiker, and enjoys writing, cooking, celebrating shabbat, and traveling.
