Zainab graduated from University of Khartoum, Sudan, with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and practiced dentistry in a variety of settings, including public, private clinics and teaching hospitals. She then earned a master’s degree in International Health from Uppsala University in Sweden and worked in health program management and planning in the field of HIV/AIDS and maternal and child health. She has consulted for various organizations in the field of health education.
As a child and young adult, Zainab lived in and traveled to several countries and gained a multicultural perspective about Islam and the world. When Zainab relocated to the United States, she took courses at the Harvard School of Public Health and at Boston University. She is currently finishing her graduate degree in Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Justice Leadership studies at Tufts University. Zainab has worked with public schools to craft events that focus on cultural diversity and inclusion, and she advocates for Muslim children, spearheading multiple efforts to advance Muslim girls. Zainab served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee in the town of Sharon.
